Here is a complete blip.tv video of the 5/19/10 solid waste forum held in Williamsburg that was sponsored by the Northampton League of Women Voters. This video is 1 hour 19 minutes long and was recorded by Mimi Odgers of Water Not Waste.
The forum was led by Hilltown Resource Management Cooperative (HRMC) Administrator Eric Weiss. According to countryjournal, “The HRMC now covers the towns of Ashfield, Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Huntington, Middlefield, Plainfield, Westhampton, Williamsburg, and Worthington, and helps the towns dispose of their waste, runs recycling programs, and has branched out to sustainability issues such as bringing wind power to the towns like at New Hingham.” Countryjournal further reports, “In general discussions [at the May 19 forum], people talked about various waste disposal sites. Weiss said South Hadley is popular and a lot of towns use Covanta Waste-to-Energy in Springfield.
“And they are seeing some reductions in waste. There is a lot less paper due to reduction of things like phone books and newspapers, also not as much glass is used since glass bottles aren’t used so much, and the plastics are lighter and thinner.”
