The [Board of Public Works] statement expressed concern about “whether or not the city can develop a strategy to avoid potential litigation,” and about “financial challenges” that the city must address in deciding how to dispose of its waste.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, noted that the next step in the permitting process, which would “normally” be preparing an application for site plan approval, would require “additional staff resources as well as more funds in technical assistance.”
“However, without a clear indication of city support, we have decided not to pursue further investment in development of the landfill expansion project at this time,” concluded the resolution.
