Northampton, MA – August 2, 2009
I, Angela D. Plassmann, announce my candidacy for the position of Northampton City Councilor, representing Ward 3.
Many people in Ward 3 believe their voices are not given enough weight in City Hall. They need vigorous, effective representation when their interests are at stake. I will strive to support the residents of Ward 3 and surpass the expectations of my constituents. In addition to effective representation, my priorities are as follows:
- Protecting the Bridge Street Elementary School for current and future generations
- Shaping infill development to preserve what’s good and unique about our neighborhoods
- Fiscal responsibility within the City budget
- Transparent decision-making
- Greater attention to the issues of crime and drug use in Northampton
- Responsible stewardship of agricultural lands, wetlands and open spaces
I am a life-long resident of Ward 3 residing on Fair Street, in the meadows section of the City. My three adult children attended the Northampton Public Schools. I began my involvement with Northampton city government in 2000 serving as the Board Secretary for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Conservation Commission. In 2003, I transitioned to a newly-created position within the City of Northampton as the Clerk of the City Council. My additional duties included working with the License Commission as well as the Ordinance Committee. I have also worked at an area law firm and am currently employed in strategic planning and other civilian duties at the police department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Please support me in my desire to serve Ward 3 as your City Councilor.
