We encourage all concerned citizens to attend Thursday’s City Council meeting (August 16). The public comment period begins at 7:15pm. The meeting will take place in the second floor hearing room in City Hall (210 Main Street). This room is smaller than the regular meetingplace, so we suggest you arrive a few minutes early to get a good seat.
Neither trees nor wetlands are on the Council’s official Thursday agenda. However, we would like Council members to start thinking now about deferring their vote on a too-weak wetlands ordinance when they take it up on September 6. There is not yet a consensus in the city about wetlands issues. Further discussion is needed. We also believe the issue of wetlands buffer zones should not be split off from the issue of vernal pools. Other communities such as Belchertown treat wetlands issues as a comprehensive whole.
